The most glorious moments of its history:

• Since 1463 Kamyanets became the royal city.
• Polish, Ukrainian and Armenian authorities ruled in the city at the same time.
• The Armenian community in Kamyanets was the largest one, comparing to other Polish cities.
• In the 16th century the city was populated with 12 thousand people.
• In the 16th century 18 workshops were open in which about 400 hand-masters were employed.
• Up to the 17th century the main trade route ran through Kamyanets, and the city competed with Lviv.
• In the 17th century the city had more than 30 churches.
• There were 8 mosques, minarets and the first coffeehouses in the Turkish period of rule in the 17th century.
• An the end of the 19th – at the beginning of the 20th centuries the Jewish community had 21 synagogues. The number of Jews took 37% of the population of the city.

- the only wooden orthodox church in the canyon;
- the two Rome-catholic churches with Christian and Islamic monuments;
- the unique composition of Christianity and Islam – the minaret with Maria;

KHOTIN fortress is 25 km from Kamyanets. Founded by Ukrainian dukes of Kyiv Rus, since the 14th c. it was under Moldavian, Ottoman, Polish, Russian and Romanian rule. The influence of different nations is noticed in the architectural miracle and the mentality of the citizens.
Situated in the picturesque valley of the river Dniester, many centuries Khotin fortress was the witness of numerous battles, tragic defeats and glory victories. The world-known war of Khotin of 1621 became the most important battle of Ukrainian Cossacks and Poles against Turks.
Nowadays Khotin fortress belongs to the seven wonders of Ukraine and it is protected by UNESCO.
On the way to Khotin you can enjoy the views of the rivers Dnisters, Zhvanchyk, Zbruch and the rests of fortresses in Zhvanets and Okopy.

There are about 100 caves in Ternopil oblast. The most interested are situated in Borshchiv district 60-80 km from Kamyanets. Having about 250 km of its labyrinths, ‘The Optimistic cave’ is the longest cave in Europe and second largest gypsum cave in the world. The cave ‘The blue lakes’ (115 km) is famous because of its beautiful lakes. The most popular caves are ‘The crystal cave’ (23 km) and ‘The Verteba’ with the remnants of the old culture of Trypillya of 4-3 Millennia B.C.
Kamyanets’ cave ‘The Atlantyda’ is for persons, interested in extremes and smart feelings.

BAKOTA cave monastery, situated 60 km from Kamyanets in the 120 meter high rock near the Dniester-river, is a model of living conditions of the first Christian monks. Perhaps it was organized by St. Antony Pechersky, the founder of Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra and Antony’s caves in Chernigov, in the 11th c. Up to the end of 14th c. Bakota was a central city in the territory Ponyzzya (‘at bottom left the Dniester’). Later it became smaller and smaller. In the end of the 20th c. the hydroelectric station was built there and the village disappeared.
Nowadays you can see only the remnants of cave monastery and infinitely enjoy the harmony of wild nature and mild climate. The place attracts with the unique kinds of plants and animal. Bakota is a natural preserve.
